Laugh So Hard Your Guts Hurt

October 2006

Boring day? These hilarious memories will put a smile on your face and take you back to your days as an undergrad. Relive your wild days and share your memories with us at here.

What is the memory that makes you laugh hardest today?

“Probably when we won the IFC softball championship, 1-0, and beat out some of the favorites. We still talk about this when we have reunions at Tech.” - Charles L. 'Bud' Aydlett, ’57

“One Friday night, after we all had too much beer, someone pointed his finger at Honey Warner's beer gut and laughed. Honey then looked down at his swollen gut and remarked with his classically straight face, “I put a lot of money in that thing.’” - Jere Wicker, ’65

“Yellow Dog bumping a MARTA bus with his VW to mate with it.” - Dallas C. Robinson, ’75

“The weekend of the big snow, Atlanta shut down for several days. We had fun.” - Eric S. Fidler, ’83

"After a "lively" 1974-era initiation party, Dean Griggin, Dean of Students, drove in front of the house to look into neighbors complaints of loud noise. Our group of 100 + brothers and new initiates enthusiastically greeted the Dean, as he drove up in the Volkswagen "beetle". Our beloved "Chai" St. Bernard ran up to the Dean's back right tire and literally bit a hole in the tire. To our embarrassment, the tire immediately went flat. So a group of brothers picked up the beetle by the bumper, as another group changed the tire...without the need for a jack. The Dean calmly drove off and just said "keep the noise down boys". Being High Beta at the time, I decided it would be good press to present a new tire to the Dean (i.e. to replace his spare that we installed). So I called up the Technique to cover the headline story, marched up the hill with Chai and a few of the brothers, and presented the new tire to the Dean Griffin. He was most gracious". So hopefully Chai, and his successor St. Bernards, have not bitten any more Dean's tires in the 30 years since."  - Bob Vogel, '76

Describe the best party

“The January 1957 party where I met my dear wife of 48 years, Shirley Barnes. We were married on the same day I graduated and was commissioned into the U.S. Army Reserves.” - Charles L. 'Bud' Aydlett, ’57

“A summer Rush Girl "Tea" when there were about 50 brothers and 200 rush girls.” - Dallas C. Robinson, ’75

“The Luau weekends we used to have.” - Eric S. Fidler, ’83

Describe your favorite/best road trip

“Traveling with fraternity brothers to go to the away football game with Tulane in New Orleans -- we made this trip three times during my time at Tech.” - Eric S. Fidler, ’83

What is the one memory you have shared or will share with your children or grandchildren?

“Winning the school "touch" football championship the year that Sports Illustrated reported 87 injuries in the infirmary after the 1st week of play.” - Dallas C. Robinson, ’75

“The satisfaction of completing a homecoming display.” - Eric S. Fidler, ’83
